Kay and Mo

Meet Kay and her horse Mo:

I used to be a happy, relaxed teenager - riding out on hacks bridle-less and bareback and enjoying the thrill of being at one with a black beauty look-alike called Tiffany from my local riding school. I went on holiday and learned circus riding skills and could mount and dismount at the trot and do all sorts of clever stuff. All my 'pony club' friends thought I was mad - yet I was a brave, fit, natural horsewoman in the making.
Horses were my life and I wanted to be a riding instructor.

Then some terrible things happened when I was 16 and I completely lost myself, along with my self confidence and my passion for life.

I got married, had a baby and didn't really ride again until I was 41 - when I sat there one day and realized what I was missing.

Within two weeks I bought my beautiful ex-racehorse TB mare, Mo. Not the easiest first horse, she had a few battle scars too, but I believe we were meant to be together to help each other heal.
My passion for horses had never gone away, but my natural riding skills had got buried under layers of self-doubt and fear - plus, I was now trying to do things properly, the 'English' way. I slipped into a depression and for two years, I have been muddling along, having problems and not riding very much, trying desperately to stop the negative chatter in my head. I've just felt lost.

A few things have happened recently that have helped me regain some of that confidence. Firstly, attending Ginny's communication workshop a few weeks ago has really helped me connect with other people's horses and trust my intuition more. A shame I couldn't take my own horse though - she refuses to trailer load, which I'm working on. But, I really did seem to be able to tune in to the horses that were there - so I'm going to Ginny's regularly group meetings and see if I can develop my natural abilities.

I also think that I was destined to go to the workshop to meet some Fell Ponies that were there. They are so gorgeous and laid-back. I totally fell in love with them and have decided to buy one. It'll be nice to have a fun little pony to play with and get some relaxing time out from my four-legged Diva! She's great in so many ways, but highly intellectual and quicker thinking than me - I definitely have some catching up to do.

A friend has kindly loaned me her 22 year old, chilled-out, chestnut horse called Toby. He's adorable. I am doing my Parelli level 1 ground skills and riding assessment with him, as he is much easier to deal with and will help me improve my skills without it turning into a fight. Once I'm more confident and assertive, I will be able to handle Mo, no problem.

Another breakthrough has been my first lesson with top UK NH trainer Charlotte Dennis. She's amazing. For the first time in years, this little girl who had stopped believing in herself, got a chance to shrug off her negative emotional straight-jacket and show off to her friends again - cantering round without stirrups or reins, with the wind whistling through her hair and a huge smile on her face!

So with more help from Ginny, Charlotte and Toby, I can see a much brighter future for both me and my beautiful Mo.

Bob and Holly

Lisa and Bob:

I've owned Bob for nearly 6 years and he was always just a Mr Average when turned out in his heard. When one day he started chasing one particular horse into the ground. It got so bad the person who run the yard said he couldn't go out any more, which was fair enough (Bob did look like a killer horse when in chase) but she wouldn't even let him be turned out with just his best friend, so I hand grazed him day after day.

At about this time he seemed withdraw and not himself when around me, Anyway I decided to move yards. OMG! first few days out in the heard brilliant, then someone with aggressive body language tried to get him in for me, and he ran i couldn,t catch him for two days and for all the time he could see a human he galloped and jumped in and out all the fields. To cut it short he was put in pen within the field which he just jumped out we put it higher he jumped. He doesn't jump like this when he is at a show!

To cut it short again, I moved back to original yard still couldn't turn him out but it was 2mins from where I live so more hour after hour hand grazing! Bob still unhappy me pulling my hair out as to why my best friend had gone off the rails, I contacted Richard Maxwell and all horse behaviorist and vets had blood tests even spoke to the vet about having him put to sleep as i think it,s wicked to stable them 24/7.

Whilst looking for this type of help I came across Ginnys website. Amazing! Some of the things she told me I had forgotten had happened to Bob all fell into place, and there was no way she could of guessed!
She mentioned that there was a bay or chestnut with a white blaze was trying to be his friend and mediator. this bay /chestnut is a palomino with a blaze is his new bezzy friend. He has had some body work done which Ginny recommended. The practitoner also found Bob had a headache which Ginny had already told me.

He is now turned out every day all day is happy relaxed and a completely a different horse. Forgot to mention that I moved him again to the yard where he was jumping out everywhere as the owner was very understanding and helpful. If bob ever goes off the rails again Ginny would be my first port of call.

This is a picture of my beautiful gentle boy sharing my daughters cheesy dipper. Lisa. xx and bobxx.

George Dryden

Meet George Dryden:

I first met Ginny when I attended one of her two-day psychic workshops in 2001 to write a first-person feature on the experience. I feel very flattered that she still has a laminated version of it on display in her summer house to this day, along with a later piece I wrote about Ginny's work as a horse whisperer.

Ginny and I have just embarked on a first for us both - a book. It's by far the biggest challenge of my journalistic career to date, but really exciting at the same time.

It's probably of no great surprise to learn that it had been almost three years since I'd seen Ginny, but shortly before I attended a recent course on small animal communication, Ginny had asked her spirit guides to send her someone who would help her write a book.

As I left the session, I found myself saying "One day, I'll write some books about you." A couple of weeks later, she called me and said: "Let's get started then!"

I began my career in journalism in 1999, after gaining a post-graduate diploma in journalism from De Montfort University, in Leicester.

I'm also a qualified Reiki practitioner (I have my second degree) and have a keen interest in all things spiritual.

I left the Leicester Mercury in August 2006 to go travelling around Australia and New Zealand. After a fantastic life-changing six months, I returned and set up my own business. As well as keeping my hand in at regional press level, my professional writing service specialises in helping businesses communicate more effectively with existing and potential customers through the written word, be it in a marketing brochure, on their corporate website, or in a motivational sales letter; writing advertising features for clients to use in magazine and newspaper adverts is a particular speciality. And they get results!

Equally, my service can be of great benefit to therapists who are time poor but need to get their work known and their profile raised. If this sounds like you, give me a call today on 07770 276610, or email me at george@gdryden.co.uk

Horse Herbs

Sarcoids
Every Horse Owners Nightmare!

My name is Karen Roberts and over the last few years I have been studying many therapies to help horse owners to help their horses naturally working mostly with herbs.

About a year or so ago I set up my own business as an Equine Therapist and am now dedicated to "Helping you to help your horse naturally".

One of the many reasons I decided to become a therapist was because my own mare had developed sarcoids, the first in 2002, and then by 2005 she had 9 in total along her midline and between her back legs. I hear you ask "have I been successful in treating them?" the answer is yes and no. Every horse is an individual and therefore each case must be treated as such, but I can honestly say my own mare, Ziggy, now only has 2 sarcoids left, which are at the moment stable.
So what have I done?
Mostly I have worked with the immune system, using herbs to boost and strengthen the immune system, never forcing the horses to take the herbs, only offering. At the same time I am offering herbs as general tonics, nutrients and those containing vitamins and minerals so that Ziggy has a really stable diet. In addition to this I discovered the advantages of other herbs which have been used in cancer treatment in humans, and some that have been used for tumors. I researched these herbs more, found that they were safe for horses and so began Ziggy on these too. More recently I have been working with Aloe Vera which is one of the most powerful and versatile herbs available This is where you have to remember, what humans call a weed, cactus or plant, actually the right variety is a herb and of medicinal value.

I have other clients using just immune and tumour related herbs, and I am pleased to say they too have had good results. The results are slow, and at times Ziggy would go into what's known as a healing crisis, where a sarcoid may get much worse but then become stable and in most cases drop off. What I love about working with herbs is that I know that they can never do any harm, and only do good - trust me if your horse does not feel he/she needs the herb they will not take it under any circumstances!!!
Sarcoids Ziggy and I are down to our last 2 stubborn sarcoids, these I think are more difficult to deal with because initially in about 2004 I was applying all sorts of lotions and potions which now I understand did no good.

It seems if we can get the right balance internally the horse is then more able to heal itself, I am lucky with Ziggy because she communicates beautifully when she really needs help - its just the case of me listening! When she is going into a healing crisis she always wants Reiki and in her own way lets me know, this too I believe can help with the healing of the sarcoids.

I hope to continue treating sarcoids, not only with Ziggy but with others horses, it is so wonderful when a client phones and is so pleased because the little critter has gone.
If you want to try some of the herbs not just for sarcoids but for any reason, feel free to give me a call on 07710 444534 and we can chat, or email me at: mail@equine-therapies.co.uk.

rook

For the love of Rooks & Crows

My name is Michelle Pitt and I rescue Rooks and Crows in my spare time.

I specialise in the rescue and rehabilitation of Rooks, Crows, and jackdaws.
I have touched on caring for Magpies pigeons and some smaller birds but rooks are generally my main passion.
Caring for rooks and crows is very time consuming but also very rewarding. I can rear young birds from 6 weeks of age up to several months until they are ready for the wild (These are rescued birds)
I try my best to practice the three 'R's these are my own rules:
  • Rescue
  • Rehabilitate
  • Release (where possible)
Rooks and crows are a very intelligent species and they do not trust people very much and quite rightly so. When they are youngsters they are still aware they shouldn't really trust people but if rescued at the right time they make wonderful and pleasing birds to care for.

I have nearly ten years experience caring for these birds and can honestly say I keep on learning about them as they years go by, each bird teaches me or shows me something new - I feel fortunate to have spent time with all of them.

My resident Birds are 'Baby, Speedy, Busted, Pip, Fizzy and Scruff' all of them are Rooks apart from Scruff, who is a crow.

Gem & Michelle

This year I had a breakthrough and successfully bred my own Rook (With help from my resident bird 'Baby') I guess you can say I can successfully rear birds from eggs now - but this is all quite new to me, having only recently been successful, I still have a lot to learn but if I can help educate other people that Rooks and Crows are not vermin and actually do benefit the countryside around them - then my time with these birds has been worthwhile.
If you wish to contact me for advice about Rooks or Crows in general I would be happy to help.
